March 2016 Holiday Club

During the March holidays, we had a two day holiday club, where we saw a total of 67 young people, both girls and boys from three different communities.  We were coaching the life skill of awareness through kick boxing, golf and ultimate Frisbee.  As with all of our holiday clubs this is an opportunity for our young people to grow better inter community relationships and have an opportunity to have coaching in sports that they have little to no exposure to.  A very big thank you to Llewellyn, Werner and Kate that came on board to volunteer for the days (if you are interested in volunteering at the Helderberg Academy on a short term or long term basis, please email beth@helderberg academy.co.za).  It was a very successful two days and the young people loved trying the new sports.  We saw a great improvement in their skills and compared to when we first started doing holiday clubs, four years ago, an increased willingness to learn new skills, instead of just giving up when it is difficult, despite some of the skills being hard to master. Anthony age 12 from Sir Lowrys Pass said ‘I enjoyed the kick boxing the most, I didn’t know how to do it before and now I do’.
